I have a hpd pipe to put on my scrambler and was wondering what primary spring to install with it.I really dont want to get a full clutch kit right now, but would like to get the most i can out of it.I do a lot of trail riding that you cant go over 25mph so i cant sacrifice too much low end.will the hpd plain spring work well? The HPD Plain spring with the S-55 weights will work just fine. Both RCR and HPD use that spring in their piped 400 kits. The engagement is still low enough to work well in technical stuff, and RIP out in the open. Put the pipe on, rejet and install the spring, and you won't believe the difference it makes.
You probably didn't notice much improvement when you installed the reeds, they 'll add some snap to the throttle response. Keep them in the low tension setting and it will help with midrange.
Try to find a purple secondary spring, as it will keep proper belt tension and prevent slippage.
Hope that helps.
