#1
I HAVE A NEW SCRAMBLER X AND WANT TO GET MORE POWER & PERFORMANCE OUT OF IT. I WOULD LIKE TO DO A PIPE, JET KIT, FILTER, AND CLUTCH KIT. WILL THIS GIVE ME THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK? OR WHAT ARE SOME OTHER IDEAS OR WHAT BRANDS ARE THE BEST?

Everyone has there fav aftermarkwt parts place I myself Like HPD If i was runnin a 400 Scram it would be RcR.
(first) HPD header&pipe ,(second) HPD airbox mod & K&N filter this comes with jets , (Third) Now match a Clutch kit or Get the HPD cam for the 500 then clutch it, They have a 42mm carb too but i do not think that would be needed there is also a High compression piston too.
Or if ya got the money send it to 4 stroke tech for the 628cc upgrade.
Never mind what some of them monkeys are saying trade it I am sure if ya wanted something diff you would have bought it >
GOOD LUCK
Word of note never clutch before doin anything that changes torque or horspower because you will have too turn around and do it again to get the most out of it and doin all that I said should bring the 38Hp to about 50Hp or better at the crank which is how polaris measures the Hp

Probably the most expensive mod but the most effective one is to replace the stock clutch with an aftermarket one. Myself, I went with Hot Seat based on my dealers recommendations and I am not disappointed. It was around $650 installed and it is like night and day. Put it this way, If I were going to trade MINE (which I am not) on a new Scrambler 500....I wouldn't even pick it up from the dealer until they replaced the clutch for me. I know it sounds silly that I would replace a brand new perfectly functional clutch with an aftermarket one but it makes that much difference.
I also recommend a K&N filter. Seemed to give it ultra smooth acceleration.
I've heard of other mods in regards to the pipes and carbs but I am not an advocate of those due to lack of knowledge. I am really against aftermarket pipes especially on four strokes because the loudness just pisses people off. If my exhaust rots off I'll replace it most likely with a Polaris exhaust.
Hope this helps.

THANKS ALOT FOR THE INFO. HOW WOULD I FIND OUT MORE ON THE FOUR STROKE TECH PLACE? DO YOU HAVE THESE MODS ON YOUR 500? I PLANNED ON THE PIPE AND CLUTCH KIT, BUT WAS A BIT SKEPTIC ON THE AIR BOX MODS, CUZ I DIDNT KNOW IF THAT WOULD MESS THE CARB UP WITH JETTING AND STUFF? WHAT DO YOU THINK? I HAVE TALKED TO HPD ON THE PIPE AND CLUTCH KIT. THEY HAVE A NICE WEB SITE , WERE ALSO HELPFUL ON THE PHONE.

I was serious . . . what are you going to gain by spending all that dough on the Scram 500 engine / clutch combo. It gets expensive and then you won't get that much quicker. There is not much to be gained there. On a 400 2-stroke it's quite different. You will spend twice as much on a 4-stroke to get 1/4 the hp. Small modificatons like filters and jet kits don't make all that much difference at all. Most clutch kits raise the engagement and help the backshifting, but are they really quicker and faster by the clock??? I've not seen anything ever published about the 500 that would confirm that. It's usually seat of the pants only.
A Supertrapp IDS setup wil go for around $275 -- gains 1-2 hp.
Bigger carb -- gain 1 hp but sacrifice low end and has an inherent bog. -- $300
Camshaft change -- $150. 1-2 hp
Piston change -- 1-2 hp -- $120
K&N filter -- 0-1/4 hp maybe, but then you must rejet also.
After the above is done then, you tune the clutch.
Roller clutch setup -- $230. Gain a little acceleration and better backshifting. No hp gain.
Tach to tune clutch -- $100, or don't get the clutch, it a waste without it for tuning.
Tires and aluminum rims for better grip and less rotating mass.-- $400
Flywheel lightening -- $75
All of the above parts will run about $1600 if you do all the work yourself, this is just ballpark prices. By having someone else do it, raises the price by about another $1000 for labor. By this time you have another $1600 in your bike whick you can never get out of by selling or trading and are in so deep now that you can do nothing else but keep it and ride while still getting blown away by the Raptors and Prarie 650's.
The 4-ST modification is quite costly and has never been proven as reliable. Look to spend another $1500 or better by the time you are done. Then when it breaks you can only wait while 4-ST puts it in line to get repaired while you are wishing you would have sold it in the first place. Another $500 wasted. That total is now a whopping $4600 and you still can't keep up and are getting more frustrated every day. You have to buy new tear away goggles and face mask just to keep all the roost out of your face. Another expense, but at least with the goggles and mask people won't recognize you on the street and laugh.
You will then come to the realization that you should have not spend the $$$$ and sold or traded in on the Raptor or Pararie 650 and enjoyed riding a lot more with all time you have spent in the garage tuning or fixing.
Ask any of those who have spent $$$$ thousands on their 400 Sports. There are several of us. The ony difference is the 400's make hp, while the 500's don't and won't. If you want to modify and go quicker and faster, spend your money on something that will get results.
Have a great day . . .
