I'm going to look at a '99 Sportsman 500, for sale privately. Anything I should watch out for? Owner says it has only 400 miles, and is in "like new condition". It's priced a little lower than anything else I've seen, so I'm a little leary. I'll now more after I see it.
Are there any common problems that I should be aware of?

I have a 99 sportsman with 1400 miles on it. The one problem I had was water in the recoil because the rubber handle wasn't sealed over the hole. This caused a fried stator which I replaced for $275, but completely my fault. What I would look for, is on the air box there is a clear plastic tube on bottom for draining out water. If this tube looks crudy and filled with mud the machine has probably seen its share of mud holes and water. Not a bad think if the previous owner did his pm after the fact. I just replaced my brake pads for the first time and also the belt. My machine has been used for bear hunting, plowing lots of snow and just plain old mud and trail riding. I have had 27 inch XT'S since I bought it with no drive train problems what so ever. People say that I am hard on my machine, but if you do the proper pm on it, it shouldn't give you any problems. hope this helps!
