Chain, Sprockets, and Belt
#1
I need to purchase a Chain, front and rear sprockets, and a Belt for my 99 Scrambler 500 4x4. I broke my chain and a tooth off the front sprocket and smoked my belt all in one day. What is the best ones to get and where is the cheapest place to by them? I guess I can only go back to the stock gearing since it is 4-wheel drive right? Thanks for your help.

We needed to replace the front sprocket and our chain this weekend (2000 Scrammy 500 4X4). The front sprocket and chain were about 85-90. Not sure how much the rear sprocket is since we didn't replace that one. You don't have to put the stock size on...but you may need to shorten your chain if you don't. We got ours from our dealer, so as far as aftermarket, i have no clue. We were in the middle of riding, and wanted it fixed to continue our days worth of riding. I have no idea about your belt. I know the one for my Kodiak was $140. So you'll be dishing out some money to get this stuff fixed.

Do as I did and go for the HPD Heavy Duty Drive Belt, its made of kevlar (material for bullet proof vests) and is designed much better. Should way outlast the stock belt. It is 10 dollars more than stock (45 as opposed to 35) but well worth it in my opinion.
I think the website is www.hpd-inc.com .
Can't help you on the spocket and chains.

Krause makes the best chain/sprocket combo I have found. Price is more than at your Polaris dealer, but if you do a lot of mud riding, or just want the best, I think that is the way to go. For general use, the stock should be fine.
If you want to change the gearing, you better OK it with your dealer/mechanic or contact Polaris. You can gear it a little higher, and will be OK, but don't gear lower, or too high, or your 4wd system will be out of whack.
That was one (and maybe the only) advantage of the 3 chain system. Just get both countershaft sprockets one tooth bigger or smaller, and the front/rear ratio stayed the same.
