FastrNU,
The changes for the 2002 Scrambler X 400 4x4 are:
Ceramic Coated Cylinder Head
Ceramic Coated Header Pipe / canister -(possibly a different pipe, as the expansion chamber is much larger and shaped differently than any stock pipe I have seen on a Scrambler - looks more like an aftermarket pipe)
Aluminum front bumper instead of mild steel (painted black)
Aluminum floorboard/footpegs instead of mild steel (painted yellow)
New style aluminum rims (sadly, painted silver rather than polished)
Yellow painted headlight guard
Yellow painted A-Arms
Yellow front bumper cover
Blue metallic plastic with X graphics in Yellow,Silver, and White
3 color stitched seat cover in blue/yellow/black
I also suspect there is some alternative clutching in use, as it seems to have much sharper acceleration than my other scrambler did when stock..also seems to be a little higher engagement than normally associated with the stock clutching.
As far as I know, there are at least 2 available in Maine right now - 1 in Westbrook and the other in Bath...
Let me know if you have any other questions, always glad to help a fellow Mainer
I'm very pleased with the purchase - after getting prices from 5600-5999 across New England, I found Littleton Motorsports in Littleton NH - they gave it to me for $5450 out the door - great place if they have one!!!

Jeez, thanks for all the info!! There's also one at Richard's Sport Shop up here in Lincoln, but its on the showroom so it doesn't have fuel or a battery, so I can't try it out. All the quads outside I've tried(I usually help bring them in when they close if I'm there gabbing), and they even let me try out the big 'ol 700 SP......WOW!! All they have is a Scrambler 500 I've ridden, but I've never tried a 400. I'd like to have the X for a winter/spring type toy, just to keep my LT500R for summertime fun only(when it gets done, that is), and that color scheme sure is sweet!! Oh, by the way, they also have a Sportsman 500 "X" there done up the same as the scrambler, but I think its probably to pricey for me! I've never inspected the Scrambler to closely, it just keeps catching my eye over there in the corner while I'm in to get parts for the 'Zilla, but I think next time I will, and maybe swindle them guys into setting it up so I could try it out..........

Geez BrownStainD,
Thanks for that intellectual addition to the topic. I'm sure many people will be turned away because you think it looks like a fairy bike, lmao!
As for your 500 keeping up with it, that is true for sure... stock. Give him 6 months and he will invest 300 dollars in hop ups that will leave you choking on dust - app 1000 dollars worth of changes will be needed for you to keep up - that is if you are equal riders.
Oh, and he probably paid less than you did... lol, yep your friend sure is the dumb one huh? hehehe
