i have a '99 xplorer and she runs great. it is all stock. one thing that i dont like and have not fixed yet is the bigger of the two wheels that the clutch belt is spun by hits the protective case by my foot when i get bogged down. any suggestions how to modify this? otherwise i love the snappy two stroke. it is almost as fast as my raptor, haha almost

I now have 7900 miles on my 99 Xplorer. Since my earlier post, I have changed the chain & sprockets. I took GOOD care of the chain, and it lasted 7450 miles before I lost a roller in the master link. I figured just as well replace the whole thing, it was starting to stretch out pretty fast, anyway.
Oh, and I tore a CV boot last fall. So far it has been a very good machine to me.

Rap66T, that is any easy one, you mean that the clutches are rubbing the housing when your foot hits up against it? If so, take the cover off, take the clutches off, you will need a puller for the front clutch, take the rear housing loose. Now on the right side where the cover mounts to the tranny, there are 3 bolts, now these bolts have o-rings, so don't take them all the way out of the cover, just out of the tranny and place a few thin washers on the bolt between the housing and the tranny. Put everything back together and your rubbing problems should disappear. I did this for mine after the cover warped a little and it fixed it. You may also want to put a dab of locktite on the bolts when you re-assemble them just to make sure they don't go anywhere.

I have a 1995 Explorer 400 2 cycle, it has around 1300 miles on it. I have thought about trading for a new one but it continues to operate without too many problems. I have changed the sending unit for the fan, the belt (wasn't giving any problems but after yrs. I thought it wouldn't hurt), brake pads. It will fly and goes places I really don't need to go.
I usually grease it once a year, and clean and lubricate the chains twice a year.

Traded my 96 xplorer for a 600 sportsman, I love the new one but still miss the old one.
The 400 is just as fast, so much lighter & fun to ride. I miss the tight turning radius of
the xplorer & the peppy 2-stroke. Don't be in a hurry to step up, that little 400 can run
with any of the big boys.
