I know the 500 is obiviously bigger, but I hear the 2-stroke performance is much better. So what Quad do you think would be faster in both acceleration and top end??? Thanks!

I'll help you here.

This has to be the most frequently asked question.

The Scrambler 400 and 500 are supposed to be dead even when stock, however as soon as you start adding mods, such as a pipe and jet kit for starters, you will definately get more power out of the Scram 400 because it is a 2-stroke. I'm happy with my 500, but if you are the type of guy who wants to really add alot of engine mods or just tries to get as much speed out of your quad as possible, then go with the Scram 400. I'm sure you know because it looks like you have alot of experience with the Polaris 400 2-strokes.

My friend just got a Honda CR450 about a month ago and man he makes me and my other buddy feel like we are riding Scrambler 50's. He totally toasts us. That bike is huge. Don't know why I brought it up, just popped in my head when I finished typing.

I raced my '99 scrambler 400 4x4 against a '01 scrambler 500 4x4 and I took him right off the line but he started catching up after a while.

yeah, but can the cr450 mud? go through snow? turn on AWD? do nasty nasty trails? no, thats why this is an atv forum, lol, im sure with enough money a scram 400 can (and has) beat those in drag

I have The Scrambler 400 2wd and the 500 2wd. They get off the line even then the 400 gains about a 1/4 of a quad length in the first 30 yards then slowly pulls away to just over a length away at 100 yards. Now the 400 has a hpd pipe and the 500 has a white brothers pipe and there is no comparison the 400 is ahead by atleast 6 lengths at 100 yards.

The 400 will be better off the line, but the two quads only have about a 20lb. wieght difference and the 500 2x4 has a little more power than a 400. I agree that a 400 can become a fast of a little faster than a 500 with a pipe mod, because it is a 2 stroke. My 500 gets beat in 100yrd drags, but wins by about 10-12 bike lenths in the 200yrd.
