I'm looking into buying a Sportsman, but I don't need all the power the 500 has. I'm wondering if anyone out there owns a Sportsman 335. I'd like to know how the air cooled engine holds up compaired to the liquid cooled 500. Any other info would be very helpful. Thanks!

I have had a 99 SP335 for about 8 months, It has held up extremely well (actually better than my 00 SP500). The machine is very smooth riding, and handles well. The biggest improvement that I made was to put the tires off of my 00 SP500 onto the 335. It helped with the steering and leveled the machine out. I just didn't like a low front end (but everyone has thier own preferences).
The outer tie-rod ends seem to wear out fairly quick though (about 200 miles of riding), but the replacements are cheap enough. Overall i have been very pleased with this machine as are several of my riding buddies with big bears whom can never seem to go all the places that the 335 can (they even ask to borrow it to ride with me when my wife doesnt go )

Don't need all the power?? What's that mean?? Just don't run it wide open all the time!
Really, my sister has a 335 and it's great for her and my neice, but unless you're very young and of smaller stature I'd go for the 500. There's not much difference in the price b/w the two, so to me that takes away a large selling point of the 335.
So, suck it up and hang on...buy the 500.

The 335 is a good choice, but sometimes I wish i had gotten the 500. If you plan on doing alot of hill climbing (long and steep) get the 500. For just Trail ridiing and work the 335 would be the way to go. Seen a dealer here advertising new ones for 4899. Same dealer has 500's for 6250. Dealer is Bentley's in Murrysville,PA. As for tires the new ones Have 24-11.50-10 in back and 24-8-12 in Front. A mid-model change.(Compared to 24-11-10 and 23-7-10. You can take the Extra money and Buy A winch, bumper, plow or just about anything else.
