Pre 01 models did have some tie rod and steering stem problems, so yours being a 01 they were fixed. The Trail Boss is a very nice atv. It's got a plush ride and decent power. And being a 4-stroke a very reliable motor. $2900 is a good price, the only difference between the 01 and 02 models is the plastic. The 02 has blue plastic and looks totally different.

wyguy, I think that for $2,900 out the door you cant go wrong. I bought a 2001 TrailBoss for my girlfriend last March and they (I checked w/three dealers) wouldn't budge on the MSRP so with tax and all I paid about $3,900 out the door. It has been a good machine although it has been used just for pretty easy going trail riding. I guess if somebody beat the hell out of one they may have problems. The only thing I don't like about it, and this applies to probably any automatic with out engine braking, is that riding down the mountains you have to ride the brakes or it will "free wheel". Other than that it rides great, and does everything I have ever expected of it. Just don't expect to,say, win any drag races! LOL

$2900 out the door is a great price. We paid more for our '00's. As far as abuse, mine has taken significant abuse and still runs/performs strong. They are a good all around quad.
