Hey if you guys have any info on how to get alittle more punch out of my 400SP Please, please, please let me know. The only problem is I have to keep it kinda cheap since the wifes getting worried about money. AAHHHHH I keep telling her its just winter layoff but she doesn't get it. So good cheap ideas are what I'm looking for. Thanks alot. Oh and by the way I like low end power, since I'm in charge of an ATV Pull Sled I need to keep the edge on the compition if ya know what I mean. Thanks

Here's what you need to do,

First of all, trade your 400 in for a 500 and then trade that Dodge pickup in for a Chevy. j/k. Actually, start with a K&N filter, then clutch springs. Hopefully someone that has put in new clutch springs will see this post and give you a better answer. I know K&N filters are the cheapest power gain i know of. By the way, where in IL is New Boston? Im up in Dixon which is about an hour south of Rockford.

you could also have your head milled along with the k@n and clutch kit, the head is very easy to remove and milling is very cheap.

New Boston is about 1 hour southwest of Moline. Almost directly across from Muscatine, IA. You need to bring that 500SP and Chev. Truck down to one of the ATV Pulls we have. You will have a great time seeing just what your machine is capable of. I bought the 400 cause it had all the accessories on it already with only 30 miles and got it for less than 5k. It was probably the best move I ever made cause everyone has a 500HO and its too hard to compete with them in that class. Not too many 400's, that means more trophies. Anyway thanks for the info.

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

Hey theres not alot to do to a 425 motor to make them run with the 500s but they are they most dependable motor that Polaris makes. The K&N filter and clutch springs will help. AS for pulling i would take the old 400 2stroke Sportsman over anything around big bores included(i may be a little predujdeced on this) but i have both a 425 and a 400 2 stroke and they are both great machines for what i have them setup for. If you ever want to come to the south end of the state to ride get hold of me.
