When reassembling the driven clutch do you turn the helik clockwise or counterclockwise 1/3 of a turn to set tension? AAEN's manual on clutch tuning states counterclockwise and a recent issue of ATV Sport stated clockwise.

Aaen is correct, counter to set the tension. Make sure you get enough tension or it will run like crud.

Actually you will be turning the outer sheave counter-clockwise.The helix is splined to the sheave.Make sure the you roll the helix over the buttons, it will be at least 1/5 of a turn.

True, unless your installing a roller. The roller cam is mounted to the inner sheave.

BTW: I noticed your in St. Louis, me too. Drop me a line lets hit Flatriver sometime when I get mine back together!

OK.. I have a question.. On my Scrambler 500 (97) When I took it apart to replace the grenaded helix buttons, the clutch splines will only engage in one specific way... What i'm trying to say is that when the spring is engaged in the holes.. and you get ready to turn it and slide it on the splines.. There is only ONE spot that it will go on the splines... One of the Splines is 2-3 times thicker than all the others.. Is mine the only one like that?.. Did thy change the 98 and up to a different design?...

The splined shaft is connected to the inner(towards tranny) sheave. So you rotate the outer sheave to put tension on the spring. I found that if you start the helix on the splines, just far enough on to be able to rotate the outer sheave, you can apply the tension and push down on helix to put in to position. Becareful of the spring, its hard to hold together by yourself to get the snap ring on. I had one heck of a time by myself,so save yourself some grief and have someone help you.
