2 mounth old Sportman 500 oil in air box and other ...

I don't like that the engine brake only works on the back wheels..because the front wheels don't lock unless the back wheels slip..This is bad for going down steep hills..the back wheels tend to lock up..makes it tricky..
I noticed the guy I ride with Honda 350 never had this happen..But I was using the back brake and likely should have used the hand brake as this works on all four wheels..This was confirmed by the mechanic at the dealership..
I also had oil in my air breather box ..He said this is caused by 1 having it over filled or 2 tipping it on it's side..I was in a coulpe of spots where it was leaning quite far but nothing that I thought was that bad...Anyone else have this happen..

Your crankcase has a breather hose into the airbox. Every now and again it coughs a little oil into the airbox, this is normal. There should be a drain in the bottom of the box, just pull the plug out of it and it will drain out. My Trail Boss does the same thing.

Hotdog,
the way i understand it the rear brake is a 'back-up' only. to be used only if the hand brake fails.
the dealer should have told you this at the time of delivery.
that ABS working the rear wheels only can definately cause some hairy down-hill rides! take-em slowly!
ride safe,

I'm not sure about a Sportsma but my Trail Boss was getting oil in the airbox too. I discovered the transmisson has a breather tube that runs into the airbox. The dealer overfilled it when it was being serviced. I drained a little fluid out of the transmission and the problem was solved.

Same thing happened to me except it was on my kawasaki. The dealer overfilled the oil during first service and the oil went in the airbox via the crankcase breather tube during a ride. Check oil levels.
