My friends scr 400( 96 model I think) AWD does not work in forward gear. The neutral light stays lit when in forward gear. The AWD works in reverse with override pressed but only one side spins. I assume this is a prob with the hub or wire going to it but what about that neutral light? Would the AWD work if that light wasnt on and how to fix this prob?
Thanks

I had a 95 scrambler and had the same problem. The first thing is: Does it go into forward gear easily? If not adjust the linkage so it does. If that is not the problem then your ground wire that goes from the battery to the engine block might me loose-this connects to the motor right behind the clutch cover. If that does not do it I have no idea what is!

One more thing-Does the AWD light come on? If not it is more than likely wiring problems.

As long as the neutral stays on your awd will not work in forword. Try holding the shifter forward all the way and see if the light goes out. If so you may be able to adjust it on with the shifter linkage. If not there is a pricey little switch in the shifter that needs replacing or jumping (the cheap way out). Only one wheel turning is a differant problem, try chaseing the wire from the hub up to the circuit board. You may be lucky and its just fallen off.If not check the hub fluid it might be low or out.Hope this helps.

You might try just bypassing the override button and the reverse rev limiter all together. I started having intermittent problems out of my 97 Scrambler and I finally just decided to bypass it all. Since doing that, I haven't had any futher problems.
You just have to remember to tell anybody else that rides it that it has FULL POWER in reverse....
