A good formula is MONEY=SPEED. The more $$$, the more speed. Probably the best thing you could do to get some speed out of that 400 is to pipe it and clutch it.

Probably the best bang for the buck, as well as kick-butt customer service goes to Rick Ritter at RCR. Ads in back of Dirt Wheels....don't buy the magazine, just copy the number at the newstand hehehe.

If all you want is speed for a cheap price, swap your stock front 13t sprocket, and put a 15t, you'll pick up about 3-5 MPH.

o k,most speed gains with less money spent (no aftermarkets mods)
i'll simply say,JET IT,CLUTCH IT,GEAR IT PROPERLY to YOUR riding style and conditions, make everything (coolant system, clutch deflection and clutch itself and cleaness, counter balance oil ok,belt ok,gearbox oil ok...) to proper maintenances, after that if you still want more,no problem the 2 stroke scrambler can be tweaked out very easily and get most of it but i'll have no more choices then buy aftermarkets items...

Changing the front sprocket to a 15 tooth will really give you 3-5 mph?

i'm not sure about the 15 tooth sprocket (can't get one right now)
but i run 13-30 gearing and i'm very HAPPY about that kind of ratio for my needs, turning the 13 to 15 front will be an amazing test in my case...
but remember, when changing gear ratio clutch reset (whole setup) is
a must.

I have done several mods to my 400.
the thing that has helped me the most other than a hpd pipe and clutch kit {a must} is a buddy of mine ported my jug and I put a 38mm carb of a yx250 and my bike really runs great.
I can pull 2 bike lengths on a stock rapter for about 300 yrds.
before my mod. I could hardly keep up.now all I do is smile.

well pull the head off and shave it for better C/R.. thats the cheapest bang for buck.

but seriously, spend some money..
just get a pipe/clutch kit/jet, pacaksge.
a new expansion chamber along with a helix and spring will definaly increse the fun factor.
as for t5he gearing, if it's a 2x4 don't mess with it, if it's a 4x4 drop a tooth off the front..
