Hey, has anyone checked mpg? I figured mine at 17 last ride. I used 1 full gallon more than the Mag 425 and SP335 on the same 60+ mile trip. They got nearly 30mpg or so.

Just curious as I did some carb work and wondering if I went in reverse on MPG????

Hey Diesel~
From what I remember, most SP500's I rode with have gotten betwen 20 and 25 mpg, usually around 23 or 24 mpg. That is usually 30-35 mph cruising on fairly straight trails though. If you're creeping through the woods, you might only get 20 mpg or less. I would go over the carb again to make sure everything was put back together correctly. 17 mpg does seem a bit low. Of course, I'm not sure how much those 27" 589's will be hurting your mileage. What kind of riding were you doing? Actually, since you're also from WI, where were you riding?

Thanks guys! The needle will go back to the center clip and we'll see how it does now. I'm also going to change those LOUSY phillips head carb screws to socket head!

FYI, I corrected the speedo/odo for tire size and it is pretty accurate as compared to the stock 335 we rode with. At 22ish miles, I had logged .8miles more than he. This would likely be from much more spinning.

I corrected the speedo/odo for tie size.

I just came back from an 80 mile round trip on mostly flat path of cinder and stone (next to RR tracks). My 2001 HO is stock except for bumpers, hand guards and the large rear cargo bin. Between my cargo and me I had 475 pounds loaded on. I had toped the tank when we left and only used 3.7 gallons @ 81 miles when I refilled it. That’s just less than 22 MPG. Most of the ride was 25 – 35 MPH but reached 55 at times. I will say my HO is very well maintained (3000 miles on it) and also has no problem exceeding the limit of the speedometer.
