I read all the posts but would still like input from the experts pls. I am looking to buy one of the above and had my mind made up on the SP700 until reading about the problems with a new model and bad gas mileage. I will be doing mostly trail riding, hunting, and dragging a trailer around my 5 ac. doing yard work. Also I don't understand why people buy the SP600 over the SP700, in fact a dealer here says they won't even stock the SP600 as they figure everyone wanting a twin will go with the SP700. Is the gas mileage that much worse on the SP700 over the SP500 HO? Thanks!!

As a matter of fact I get about 120 miles to my 5.25gal tank on my '01 HO. I ride with three other 700's and they need gas when i'm near 1/2 a tank.

I've got a 02' 700 - great machine - kinda guzzles gas though. I've ridden the 500 extensively as well. I'd definately go with one of the twins - especially if you do a lot of open trail riding. I ride with another guy that has a 500 - and I need has when he is at about 1/2 tank. If your really concerned about fuel, use those luggage racks and some good tie downs, and bring spare fuel on long rides. I'd say you can get about 75-100 miles per tank on the 700. Only other thing is that the 500 has been around longer, and seems to have most of the "kinks" worked out of it. You'll probably have the 600 or 700 in the shop at least once. My 700 had the all-too-common coolant leak.

Let me know if you have any other questions on the 700.

I am confused, the 600 is quicker and gets better mileage than the 700? How much quicker and how much better mileage? Are the twins really that much quieter and smoother than the 500 HO?
