Has anyone put alot of miles on a 700 with out the pump leaking? I just picked mine up and went out this weekend and put 70 miles on it and the pump cover is still not leaking. The dealer told me that they would have a new cover out pretty soon. This was my first ride on the 700 and it is AWESOME! This machine was everything I hoped for and more. When your cruising around 30 mph and you hit it it really kicks in. The front end will come off the ground in low without using the breaks.

Cajins, Congrats on your new 700!
if it was built prior to 9/02, i'll bet my last dollar it's a LEAKER! they all are!

'02 700- 100 miles LEAKER
'03 700- 10 miles LEAKER

i was told by my dealer the new kit will be shipped Wednesday. mine along with a TON of others are lined-up in their Service Dept. waiting!

i'm still pi$$ed-off!

Honda's calling me.......................................

sincerely,

mtpockets,
Are you saying that the different style cover is a retrofit for the 02s?

Cajins,
Hey, how come everyone else can do wheelies, mine must be a bone. Is there anything simple I could look at to see where I could find some more "snap"? thanks

NorthStar2,
i don't know what the new "kit" includes. i can tell you that my '02 and '03 have the SAME water pump. they look the same.

however, the '03 700 built in 9/02 have a different bracket holding-on the black water pump. if this new design really solves the problem is yet to be seen.

i just think Polaris should NOT have produced any '03 models with the same old junk leaky parts KNOWING that they would be just as bad as the '02's.

you'd think they'd care about maintaining their IMAGE a little bit!

i will tell you what that part looks like when i get it back.

in the meantime, i'm shoping a Rubicon. i'll trade the '02 (if they will take it). i will keep the '03 (if they can stop the damn leak).

out for now,
-MT

Mine was built sometime in june I think. I will keep an eye on the water pump and keep hounding my dealer for the new one. Has anyone found out if its going to be a totally new cover or just a piece that goes over the existing one? If thats the only problem I have with the 700 I will be happy. I know that they are not the only ones with problems. I did alot of reading on the Griz and the Praire and they have there share of problems like gas boiling and burning belts. I dont know why yours wont wheelie I was not even trying that hard, with my Xplorer I had to hold the brake but this one I didnt have to. It might just be the new belt that has alot of bit right now.

I just can't believe Polaris still has not made a metal water pump cover. I have posted many times in regards to this problem. My SP700 has been in three times for this same problem. It started leaking again after the third repair attempt and I just resealed it myself. I have not ridden it much since then but it will probably start leaking again. Every time the cover was replaced with the same crappy one. I have talked to Polaris customer service until I am blue in the face. Every time I get the same answer that it is just an isolated problem. What a joke! I personally don't know anyone who owns a SP700 who has not had this problem. If anyone knows for sure Polaris is making a new metal cover, please keep us posted. I think all of us SP700 owners have been ripped off.

i have to see if the new design actually fixes the problem.

i pick it up this Thursday 1PM.

i will spend the weekend riding my over-priced ATV and give some feedback to those that care to listen about the new water pump design.

Just a quick update on the 700 coolent issue: No news yet on Polaris covering the repairs under warrenty and my dealer had not heard of a repair bullitin being mailed out to all SP700 customers.

Today I traded my Sportsman 500 in on a 2003 Yamaha Grizzly Special Edition.

JeffA,
GOOD MOVE MAN!
i would have done the same thing....except my Polaris dealer is doing EVERYTHING in their power to satisfy me. your dealer sounds like a real $hit Head!
my dealer is still waiting for the kit. they still have my '02 700. they still pull it in-doors every night. they take my daily calls kindly and are conciderate.
so I will stick-it-out with POLARIS!

another nice thing they did to ensure my faith in their product was to give me the 6 mo. Extended Warranty for free! a nice touch!

i wish you good luck with your new Grizzly and hope you have many happy trouble-free miles....and i hope to hell you have a good, honest dealer too for service!

ride safe,
-MT
