Sportsmen 500 Vs. Eiger 400

Grizzinator600,
I would think before you come into a forum that you would do some research yourself instead of conducting some lame unscientific test. Obviously your not a fan of Polaris based off of your nickname so if you think the eiger is better than the tried and true sportsman....look again......come back when you can offer some real insight to us Polaris lovers.....

What are you talking about breaking the IRS. Why do you people like to make up crap. When you look at a ATV you dont just look at the engine size, you compare the weight of both. The ride on the eiger does not compare to the sportmans with IRS.Your weeny wagon eiger does not have close to the sales of the SP 500. It didn't have any problems in the first place.

grizzanator600,
this post has been up since nov 30th and I still don't see one other eiger owner supporting your claim so that should be proof enough that as I said before your test was a **** poor attempt to try and make people mad.

The FACT here is that there is NO WAY the Sportsman sucks compared to the Eiger. Come on! And I don't know who told you the stories about IRS breaking, unless someone hit a tree going 30 in reverse. Do a search for broken IRS and you won't see any results. The Polaris IRS is a VERY TOUGH time tested design. It is a work of art in my opinion and in no way is just a problem waiting to happen.
And to respond to your comment about Polaris adding the H.O. motor to the Sportsman because the old Sportsmans were too slow...let me ask you this...what is possibly the one thing most owners of any ATV wished their quad had? MORE POWER! DUH! And don't go telling me that you only said the Eiger is faster off the line. Re-read what you originally typed.
Who can tell that you meant off the line? I can't.
And by the way, Sportsman is spelled S-P-O-R-T-S-M-A-N, Sportsman, not Sportsmen. It is supposed to be singular, as in, I am an avid sportsMAN.

We picked a nice even and flat field to race on. Now after about 12 races in the row.....Surprisingly the Eiger would pull away from the Sportsmen by about 3-4 atv lengths. The race length was about 600 ft. long, from start to finish.Figuring that there is a 100CC engine size difference, the Eiger's engine configuration is designed abit better. And yes both riders weighed about the same....about 10 lbs. difference.

I like the Eiger..i think it's a great machine....but when he said that the "ride" of the Eiger and the Sportsman are fairly close, you know immediately that it's a bias opinion, and the rest of the post would be full of crap...Eiger is a great bike in my opinion, but the actual riding comfort is much greater on the Sportsman.

anyways... i don't go in the yamaha section to say a raptor is crappy or in the honda section to say that the foreman is slower then a baby snail !!!

I own a 2003 Eiger 400 4x4 5 speed. My best friend owns a 2002 Sportsman 500 H.0. In the few months that I have had my machine we have rode together for over 300 miles. To get to the trails we have to drive on 10 miles of dirt roads. I will say this the 500 walks away from my eiger with ease. By the end of the 10 miles I can no longer see him or his dust! My eiger tops out at 53 MPH with a GPS. His Sportsman tops out at 59 MPH with the same GPS. I am able to take him off the line up to about 40 MPH after that it is all over. His Sportsman is equiped with a winch and various other extras and he weighs about 100 lbs more than I do. The rides are totally different the Sportsman rides great I am actually able to sit down on it and run over a plowed field without getting thrown off, on my eiger, I have to stand up or I would be thrown. I will say this, my eiger is a lot faster on the trails than the sportsman is. Because of the ride difference the sportsman FEELS tippy in the fast turns because of the IRS. The Sportsman is a great machine, I would have bought one but I couldn't find the extra $1500. My other option was the 330 magnum that is a different story.
