SP600 Rear rack setup - Advice needed
Hi, I just purchased my first ATV a Sportsman 600 and am trying to decide on how to set up the rear rack for hunting/fishing/camping. I was looking at the Polaris large plastic box, but you have to remove the rear rack and the rifle carrier will have to be moved to the front rack. The plastic box looks pretty water tight, however the Polaris soft bags look OK too, but not as water resistant. The soft bags will allow the rack to stay on, and the plastic box is pretty big. I would also appreciate any other advice on set up that you might have too. Thanks for your help! Mark

I made a rectangular frame approx 2'x4' that I attach to the rear of the quad. I used a trailer ball coupler at the hitch location to attach the bottom, then at the tubular rack extension I use u-bolts to attach the top. I use tarp straps/bunge cords to hold tree stands, portable blinds etc. You can strap most anything to it securely and it's easy and quick to install or remove. Then you still have the rack free for bags or a box, I use a Delta steel lockable box also on the rear rack during hunting season that has a removable base so that's easy to take off/install also. The box will hold my helmet, fanny pack, clothes etc. I'm not sure that box is still available but you could come up with something in any event.

hi lockjaw,
i bought a plastic box, manufactured by tamarack, from my dealer. it has rubber straps to hold it on and it works very well. i think i have seen these advertised in the back of atv magazines. they have a pad on them that you can lean back against while riding too. you do not have to remove the rack to use this type of box and it is easily removed. i put a cloth pad under it so it wouldn't scratch the rack. congrats on the new quad!!
