If you're doing a ot of ice rideing, make a set of fold out arms to bolt to your racks. Pipes that fold in and out or pipe inside a pipe, like the trail packers, that drag snowmoble trail over lakes or rivers use. They weigh 30,000 lbs and just put the arms out when over water, if they go through the ice the arms keep them on the top.

I pump my tires up to 30 lbs with helium. That way the machine doesn't put much weight on the ice, and if you do go through it floats. Does wicked jumps too.

Hey Alpine,
I have a pair of La Crosse Ice man boots that I have had for about 7 yrs and they are very warm and comforatble. I also wear a 2 sock system which consist of a silk sock with a heavy sock over it. These type of 2 sock system are designed to wick the moisture away from the foot. I have 2 pairs. I bought one pair at Dick's Sporting Goods and the other at Walmarts. Hope this info helps. I will go on line and look for the suit. I bought a Heavy suit 3 yrs ago from Coldwave, it's called the Avalanche model and it is very warm.

just had a thought. If you go to cabelas.com they usually have alot of choices and I think they sell LaCrosse boots. Also look into the high snowmobile type boots. If you don't have to shift the atv, you really don't need something with a reinforced toe. Good Luck
ps I have been hearing that the
trails in Canada are awesome but some have said that depending on where you stay there have been some thefts of either atv's or entire truck and trailer set up. Can you give me any info . would love to ride in Canada but a little apprehensive. Thanks

Wisconsin Rider,
We hadsomething like that happen up on Lake George in NY. We were lucky enough to get something on the back rack before it went down which made it a little easier to bring back up. I just got a cabelas cataloge and it shows the inflatable vest that the fishermen wear if you do alot of ice riding you might want to check it out. At least it will keep you aflot if it happens again.

This post reminds me of a guy I met once. He was riding an older pre-HO Sportsman and I got to noticing that the thing was just trashed. the handlebars, levers, plastic etc. was all scratched up like it had been sand blasted. Said he was playing on the ice (Bear Lake) and hit a soft spot over a spring, the quad went in back end first, did a flip and sat upside down (3 months) until they were able to get it the next spring. They took it to the local auto shop and they changed the oil greased it up and $100 later he was up and running. Trust me, I'm no Polaris fan, I wouldn't make this up!!!
