I like my Scrambler 500 4X4 but there are a few things you should know.
1. They are not made for jumping, I do anyways but it will cause your chain tention to loosen up. And just talking to Polaris mechanics its just not good for them. They were not designed for that purpose.
2. Do not tow or push with your quad. It burns up the belts & or the clutch. I know first hand. They haven't any low gear.
It will go through any snow, mud or whatever no problem.
Put a pipe, clutch kit & a K & N on her for best performance.

If you want a 4x4 that you can play on and mud, water, and trail ride maybe slide and wheelie a little, the Scrambler 500 is the bike for you. Also, I personally would keep in mind the Kawi 650.

Hey Bing,
I've a got a full set of EBC Severe duty Kevlar brake pads for the Scrambler. I now have a Predator and don't need em anymore. I paid close to a hundred bucks for them. I'd give them to you for half that, plus 5.00 for priority shipping. They are supposed to be the best, that's why I bought them in the first place. Let me know if you are interested.

Hi,
i've got a 2001 scrambler 500 4x4 with the gen III winch on it.... and it is still a good ''wheelier''.
about the mud... realy not bad... but bigger are the tires and better it is in the mud... and the scrambler got small tire; really good to compare with a front differential atv like wolverines or the old honda forman but nothing to compare with my father's sportsman or my old magnum 425.
about the jumps... if you want to jump relatively high... you must remember that flat landing=broken back and broken quad... other then that... i jump all the time... but i make sur ther is a good landing.
about the water... craaaaaaaaaaaapppppppppppyyyyyyyyyyyy... if you go slowly, you can easly cross a 3 feet deep river but if you want too do it fast... about a foot of water will give you hard time... the water that is sprayed by the front right wheel goes into the belt vent and that makes you're belt slip... no big deal, but you have to rev it up on neutral to make it dry... untill it's dry... don't expect to move... usualy you have enough time to cross the water before it slip bad... but then a good 5 minutes is requier to make it dry out.
about trail riding... it is the best of the best... even on what we call '' planche à laver '' ( you know when the gravel roads are just like the washing board that they use to use for washing the clothes and they use it for music in louisiana :-).... ) i ride the trotle wide open in these ''planche à laver '' and you don't even feel it. the suspension is howsome, it is powerfull, no shifting, good top speed, and good torque.
over all it is a very good machine... i highly recommend it !!
that was my experience with this quad.
bye
