Alright,

I've seen a few posts around here where people are complaining about the top end of smaller displacement bikes in the Polaris line (i.e. Sportsman 335, Magnum 325, etc.). One thing to remember is that these bikes weigh almost as much as their larger displacement Magnum and Sportsman 500 brothers, yet they are saddled with a smaller engine. The motors are not underpowered, but simply have to pull a heavier load. Myself, I have a 2000 Magnum 325 4x4. I can't touch Wolverines, Grizzlies, Scramblers and Sportsman 500s. It's a great machine in the woods, and the low range is awesome, but I find that if it went on a serious diet, then some performance advantages might be realized. Yet, with a diet comes durability problems, and you could end up with a wisp of a bike. My point is though, Polaris should look into ways of shaving some pounds off their lower displacement sport/utility bikes. God knows that weight reduction is a big factor in their snowmobile division, so they could carry this over to the ATV field as well. Any comments?

Polaris uses full size fames on all there bikes.I parked beside a 325 and it has as much room as my Sportsman and looks like the very same seat and racks as I have.I like the large size when I have a passenger because they do not get in your way and use none of the back rack space. As for being beat by a Grizzly,Wolverine and Srambler that is to be exspected because they do 60+ mph while a SP 500 can do 55mph.

Yes diets are very good, lighter is better. But as
with almost every way to make an ATV faster, lighter weight costs $$$$$$. If Polaris came out with an ATV using the lightest frames, parts, and engines they could, the cost would be $10,000 & up. That's fine if you have the ways and means to do that great, many machines would cower in your wake. But few would be able to follow in your foot steps. Most of us are happy on our $4K, $5K,
& $6K ATVs, for now anyway.

if i said it ounce i've said it a thousand times. if the magnaum didn't weight as much as a m-1a1 tank i'd have bought one of them. they also tend to cost about 500 more than comperable quads in my area.

You will be waiting a long time for the day they make a light weight big bore utility bike.Susuki makes the lightest 500cc utility at 606lbs and the extra 41 lbs the 500 magnum carries is not going to be noticed by it's 500cc motor.

the mag500 will probably be my next quad, but i ain't tradin the rancher for it. i figure by the time i get to the point where i can afford another quad, polaris will be as rock solid as honda
cart

p.s. a bigger gas tank would also be nice. could you put a tank from a sportsman on a magnum?

I looked at the Expedition (425) before purchasing my Rancher. I really liked it except for its weight.

I dont't know what is wrong with you people?? Utility quads are heavy for a reason. If you want something that is faster and lighter get a scrambler! Living on a farm I know this to me-the heavier the better (To a certain point) I own a scrambler for the faster rides and a sportsman for work. I use the sportsman for pushing up feed and I have 400 pounds of John Deere weights on it.

400 SCRAMBLER-WHEN I'M ON THE GAS I'LL KICK YOUR ***. RCR-STAGE 1 KIT

All this talk of weight. Take a look at the Griz it only weighs a smidge over 600 lbs. and the SP500 is around 730 but the bottom line is the SP will keep up with a Griz in spite of the extra weight. So what's the big deal.
