Unless you run at full throttle for a long period or race 5 or 6 times in a row without cooling down, you may not realize what the lean condition is doing. I thought I was fine too last summer, but I was drag racing and shattered the piston after about 5 runs. You can be a little lean and not realize it until it is too late. Just something to think about. You will also get engine damage sometimes without realizing it until you tear it down or take the motor apart and inspect things.

You pull the choke and nothing happens? Sounds like you need to adjust the choke cable.
