Does anyone have any ideas on how polaris could save weight on a sp500 but still have the same features, ride, realiability, and performance. the only think that i can think of is using aluminum parts, but this would add cost. any ideas??

My xpedition 425 cc 5-speeds base weight was 647 lbs. If I remember right. Isn't the base weight of a sp500 about 697 lbs. Not that much more actually. I just reduced the weight by buying a full set of itp magnum billet alluminum rims which are lighter then steel rims of course. What I am gambling on is that they are strong enough to hold up on the polaris. IF not then, im out the cost of
them as I still have my steel rims. My dad bought my stock tires but not my rims. I then bought 26 inch mud bug tires by maxxis. they are a very light weight 6ply tire. I think, even lighter then
stock polaris dunlop tires. It seems to be true as
my xpedition 425 cc has more zip/pep/getup-and-go now. I also dont have any idea if those aluminum rims are strong enough for the sp500 either. I like mine so far, they are attractive, light, and I like the extra zip my atv has. Yes, this was an expensive proposition. $850.00 with the shipping cost. It seems that even a modest reduction of weight makes a big difference.

rangerchet, polaris xpedition 425 cc 5-speed.

The rims will hold up on your Sportsman. If climbing rocks is all you do, you may want to stick with the steel, other than that, those ITP Magnums will hold up fine.
