Well even that is up for debate. the two stroke may make more power up top, but the 4stroke could have a better low end, which would cause ti to accelerate just as quick.

its hard to say, and even harder to prove. You'll never get two bikes set up the same to find out..so we'll just leave it alone [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

 

with $8000 i'd go for the new Gas-Gas Wild HP 300, if you haven't heard of it, its a new production 2 stroke made for racing and would surely give your dads 250r a serious rival to contend with. Here's some pics and specs

i think u got that low end and top end thing mixed up. low end is torque, not acceleration. top end is top rpm power, not top speed. but if thats not what u ment then sorry. low end wont cause quick acceleration because ur never in the lower rpms in a drag race. im glad u agree with me,because two exact quads only ones a 2 and ones a 4 stroke would be close. case closed

how you gonna say low end isnt acceleration? If i got more low end torque then you then im gonna pull out of the hole quicker. Torque is all about aceleration! Two cars, equal weight, equal HP, but one had more torque, guess whos gonna win? Torque is what you feel. I'd take a car that had 450 ft/lbs and 300hp over a car that had 350hp & 350 ft/lbs any day!

Top end is about top speed. If i've got teh HP to keep pulling up top of course im gonna have a higher top speed then somone who cant pull they're 5th gear. Same reason why i want to have all that low end torque...your racing and BAMN, you click in the 5th...bike one has enough torque to pull that 5th gear all the way to redline, however bike two doesnt...they cant get the rpms up high enough cause they dont have hte power.

 

i dont know of too many 4 stroke and 2 strokes that make similiar power and the exact same gearing. gearing=torque multiplier. same reason why my bike makes NO torque, but has a close ratio 6 speed that embarasses 4 strokes with a lot more torque than my bike all the time.

 

maybe low end torque gets u out of the hole on an automatic,but ur never in lower rpms in a drag race. rev it up,dump the clutch and ur gonna tell me ur not past low end?

 

make ur dad ride the 300 and u take the 250 i think the odds will be opposite.

 

I am not trying to start another argument, but in dirtwheels it was saying something about 2 strokes have a hard time beating crf450 and yzf450 powered quads.

 

ok dude the 450's will beat stock 250R's. but i have one with a 330 kit in it and i will get about half a bike link on a 450. but one of ma friends got an R wit a 350 kit in it and he steadly pulls away from the 450's.
