Best all around gearing 300ex

I just bought a new 36t rear and a new 13t front a 12 on the front would be way to high gearing for a 300 ex and be bad for trails wouldn't it ?

Would a 14/36 be close to a 13/38 because I want to stay with the 13/36 i like that gearing and I found the 13/38 too low because I have 20" tires on it

I had that problem, with a 13/36 and was just running it really loose until it streched enough for me to take that link out.
