Default IMS Gas Tank Leak

Ive got an IMS Gas tank that leaks around the fuel petcock. The mounting surface of the tank is not flat between the nuts in the tank, my question is does anyone have any tricks to flatten the tank so it wont leak? It looks like it was ground with a grinder but not far enough to be flat. Can I hit it with a grinder ? Im afraid it may heat the threaded inserts up in the tank and they will fall out. Thanks for any help.

First i'd try using some kind of epoxy or liquid gasket to seal it up, before you go grinding away at it.

Get a block of wood and wrap sandpaper around it, and touch up the spot that needs it.

I tried the sand paper first and it worked great, the inserts must be brass . They were soft and sanded easily. No leaks now. Thanks for the help
