mojave vs raptor 250
I know the mojave is one of the best 250s out thare but the raptor is supposed 2 be the absolute best i saw yamahas raptor 250 test against what they claimed was every 250 but they seemed 2 have missed one "MOJAVE" so i just wanted 2 know if the raptor is the "BEST" as yamaha claims

The Mojave is a tired old design. Why do you think they discontinued it....and they never even had anything to replace it with?
Who cares which is "faster". It isn't how fast you can go, it's how well it handles when you do go fast...and that was never the Mojave's strong point. Wasting everyone's time on this one....

mojave vs raptor 250
I'm pretty sure that the mojave would eat the raptor 250 alive. Just look at the specs: http://www.atvsource.com/manuf...asaki/2003/mojave.htm
The mojave has an 11:1 compression piston, liquid cooling, 4 valves and DOHC. I think it would have about 18-22hp with those specs, or it could get there with a simple pipe and filter and open air box lid.
The raptor 250 has 2 valves, 9.5?:1 compression, air cooling, and SOHC. I think it would have about 14-16hp with those specs.
If I had a choice between the two, I would choose the mojave. Then I would throw some 18" rears tires and 20" fronts onto it to lower the ride height.
The width is similar to the raptor 250, as well as the suspension.
The mojave could be made into a much better machine with its liquid cooling and 4 valve DOHC motor, however, the Raptor has E-Start and ways much less so it is better for newer riders.

The Mojave is one of the few ATVs with a 4 valve DOHC engine thats why it can even beat the larger 300 SOHC Lakota. No way the old school 2 valve SOHC motor Raptor would keep up.</end quote></div>
But it is heavy like a brick and it doesn't handle all that well....so who cares?

Recon's point about weight stems from the OP's original question. Mojaveman asked which was the better 250. He didn't ask which was the fastest in a straight line, or which had the highest tech engine, hence weight and handling making a difference in the overall performance of the quads in discussion.
Seems like 'better' just means 'fastest' in this discussion.
