The DS450 doesn't have reverse, but the KTM does. I'm assuming that you're looking at the DS450 X XC right?
I would take a DS450X XC over a KTM personally, just because I like the Can-Am more. The KTM is a sweet bike, but expensive from what I hear. It does, however, come with just about any aftermarke upgrade that you would ever want. Well the Can-Am does also. So basically they are both pretty equal, if you are actually gonna be racing XC then I would go for the KTM, if not, then I would go with the Can-Am.

Basically what scrambler said should answer the first part of your question... but not too sure about the acceleration times.
I'm not sure about KTM's reliability, but they are a major motocross brand (especially in Australia, they are really popular down there), and since the engine comes' from a bike ( I think), I think that the engine should be really reliable. Can-Am's usually tend to be really reliable, they also come with a FULL 3 year warranty. Our Outlander has been very reliable, no problems at all.
Are you avoiding the YFZ450 and Suzuki LT-R because they are an MX bike? Just wondering. Also, why aren't you considering the Raptor 700? (Sorry if this comes off as offensively, just trying to make some recommendations).....

Tough call- I would go for the Can Am just because its quite a bit cheaper than the KTM and sounds every bit as tricked out (X MX version my fave personally).
