2004 YFZ...what keeps the oil from draining back into the engine after you shut it off? After being parked for some time, mine will all drain into the engine and will refuse to start. Only a tow behind my car will get it going again and bring the oil back into the tank.

theres a check ball (check valve) in your oil flow route under the oil filter. idk if that being stuck open would allow your filter to drain down into the pan (case) ?

How do you get to this valve thing? I see it on page 2-10 but having a hard time on page 2-26. Is there a procedure to take this thing apart in the book anywhere?

theres nothing in the book i know of. im pretty sure its in the oil pipe in the side cover itself. before you tear anything apart, what makes you think the oil is draining form the tank. you do know that yøu have to run the engine before oil will show on the stick right? hard starting could be anything from an uncharged battery to clogged air filter to valve clearance.

Buddy's Harley has the same problem...the oil drains to the engine then engine has a hard time turning over from the excess oil in there. Was assuming the same here. The oil doesn't show on the dip stick at all. After starting the oil comes up to level. Guy's with old Harleys have to lap the seat where the ball sits with lapping compound to get it cleaned up then drop in a new ball and spring. It makes sense...too much oil in the engine and it has a hard time with pumping it back up while trying to start. After I pull it behind the car, it'll start fine every day but if it sits for 2-3 weeks I have to pull it with the car again. Air cleaner is clean, new spark plug. It's hybernating till the spring...will see what I come up with then. THX
