the fastest stock quad is the cannondale but i dont know if i would buy one right now with the company in trouble and all other than that the raptor isa good choice it fast and has alot of power if you get a full exhaust and jet it and take the air box lid off it makes a big deference. i can woop on most raptors and stock Zs all the time they are nothing but a stock 400ex cannont beat a raptor but have seen them beat a Z it depends on the rider if i were you i would buy a 400ex and get ct 440 big bore kit that is what i did and i love it it has lots of power and torque i dont think i would trade it for any other quad. but thats maybe cause i have lots of $ invested in it/

 

From what I remember reading it said the Predator was reeling in the Raptor, reason for being slower in a drag race was the lift shifts.

I think this should be settled as soon as everyone gets thier new issue of ATV Sport. They'd better have hard facts!

I will put my money on one of these: Predator, DS650, or C-Dale for top speed along with accel.

Yeah? my first post said i think it was around like 78 but it was really 77.7? Ask any perfomance shop how fast it goes and they will tell you, as matter of fact go to bansheehq.com and ask. Oh and read this arcticle from dirt wheels issue jan. 2003 for the best acceleration and drag race winner, " While there was some debate about how the power came on, there was disputing that the banshee has the best kick in the pants horsepower of the bunch. For pure sand slinging acceleration it was rated the top-dog in our comparison." So honestly i dont care if you dont believe me but call and see the banshee tops out at 77.7 and this is straight from ATV action.

With all the discussions about MPH and horsepower going on I thought I would dig through my "archives". And I found a jewel!

3&4 Wheel Action, June 1988. 6 quads at the 1/4 mile asphalt strip (L.A. County). Also these speeds will be the top end of each machine as the article reported all quads were topped out before the end of the quarter.

1. Suzuki 500 Quadracer, 79.20 mph, 15.09 et, 1.938 60 ft time.
2. Yamaha 350 Banshee, 77.05 mph, 15.33 et, 1.902 60 ft time.
3. Kawasaki 250 Tecate 4 74.75 mph, 15.81 et, 2.064 60 ft time.
4. Suzuki 250 Quadracer, 71.48 mph, 16.09 et, 1.947 60 ft time
5. Honda 250 4-trax R, 71.89 mph, 16.42 et, 2.084 60 ft time.
6. Kawasaki 250 Mojave, 57.84 mph, 19.07 et, 2.162 60 ft time.

All machines were bone stock, two riders made four runs on each quad. The best times were obtained by leaving in second gear with exception of the Tecate-4, it worked best in first.




I can tell you my Predator will walk away from the stock Banshee's I've raced down paved county roads.

 

I'd like to note that 1/10 is about 1 car length, about 15 feet, 3/10 would be about 45ft. It could be fairly accurately figured based on speed. 3/10 is a good win.

Anyone raced thier built quads in the 1/4, especially a Predator? I drag race often, in a car though.

 

Ran my junk automatic quad on the 1/8th mile (660ft) asphalt drags. It could only do 8.4's at 78mph. That was with a 1.82 60ft time spinning the radials pretty hard. By the way slapahobanshee, you didnt specify the Predator, just a Polaris. All I have to do is push the thumb throttle and watch your Banshee get farther behind.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

Blue 01' Raptor, Yosh pipe, alcohol(FUN), 1/8 mile drags at 8.8, 69mph

Modded '01 Raptor - 9.7 @ 65 mph 1/8 mile w/ bad clutch

I took my raptor to an 1/8 mile track stock with a GYT-R carbon Fiber pipe I ran a 10.23@63.560 mph

My stock Scrambler 500 ran a 10.5 @ 58mph on an 1/8 mile asphault drag strip

with t-4's the best time we've got out of our stage II trinity port (mx) the best we got was 9.4 at 74mph. but we hadnt messed with the jetting or anything and really dialed it in or anything.

well, mine went 7.60's in the 1/8th mile.... but it was not stock... not sure about quarter.... id say a stock banshee around 15 sec... because stock banshees run high 9's in the 1/8th....

banshee=way 2 much unusable power. raced quads for 10 years now and never been beat by a banshee in the woods. have been beatn by 1 and i mean 1 banshee on the track. i raced small, lots of turns supercross type of tracks so most of them didnt get 2 use their top ends. the 1 that would woop our asses had 20 grand in it. he can have the 100 dollors for the win! if yamaha would do somthn with that chasis and suspension, i would consider buying it. not trying to **** any1 off here. i havnt seen anything stock beat a banshee in the dunes and would prob own 1 if glamis wasnt 36 hours away!

 

Dragomni, thanks for the posts. Most people dont understand what it takes to run those kind of times. We have a local Banshee that does the mid 7's at over 84mph and runs our 1000ft drag strip at 9.9's at 91mph. The Polaris would go faster if you could gear it higher. That was with a 15-34 gear. If you gear it higher it doesnt like to take off as well, and it runs out of gear at about 700ft as of now.
