Default LTZ-250 or 300EX?

I am buying a new quad for my kid to race next year... anyone know how a stock LTZ 250 would rate against a stock Honda 300 EX? The class max cc is 300 4 stroke, 250 cc 2 stroke. Any other suggestions for a good race quad for a kid?

Does the vehicle entered have to be a current production model?

Manhster, u read my mind. If the 250 that you buy is said to be to big in displacement have it downsleeved, so it is under 250 cc.

Dudes,,,the LTZ is NOT the LT250R
BigM,,I'd highly recommend the bulletproof 300ex! The LTZ is an auto shift with a shaft drive. A fine putt, but hardly a racer.
My boy went from the LT80 to the 300ex with no problems,,and he loves it.

I haven't got to run with a 300EX, but I have a feeling it would beat my Z250 on the track. I love my Z, but I couldn't justify the price difference for the 300EX, plus its mainly for my girlfriend and she didn't want to shift with a clutch. But on the track, I would personlly take the 300EX if you want to spend the extra money. Have you considered the Mojave? I know those can run with the 300EX and they have a better track suspension than a Z250, plus its a 4 stroke.

I love my Z250, but I'd have to say go with the 300EX. They are both pretty close when it comes to top speed, but it just takes the Z250 forever to get there. So I would say go with the 300EX because it accelerates quicker, and is more race suited. If you can afford a 250R, then go for it!!! That's my dream quad and possibly the best race quad ever made.
