I'm getting ready to purchase the vinson. I can't decide which transmission to get. I have heard that the 5 speed is a lot quicker. Does anyone have any 1st hand knowledge of the performance difference? I really like the 2004 l.e. (all black) but I see that it is the auto version...Thanks...

 

I am in the same boat, I really like the black but all I see is the auto. Also, I read that with the manual you do not need to use the hand clutch - is this true?

 

No hand clutch just a foot shifter. A dealer in my area told me that he doesn't expect the 2004 models in until after January and didn't seem to know anything about the l.e. model.

 

I've only heard auto available for 2004, black in limited supply, expect very little discounts, Currently own red auto 03, just purchased black sound bad for scratches and hard to stay clean.

 

i am not a big fan of autos. the problem is when you get in the mud and get it wet, the belt has a tendency to slip until it dries. not a problem with the manual. i've had mine for about 5 mo. and it is an awsome machine. the stock tires are not great but they have got me out of everything i have ever put it in. i also have a jet, air filter, and pipe on it.

 

I went to the dealer yesterday and they said there is a manual for 2004. I told them I didn't see it on he web site and they checked thier order book and there it was. Also the there is only going to be a little over one LE version made for each dealer and they can only order one and after every dealer has had the chance to order one the other dealers can order the remaining few. Don't expect to see one till end of January, but they said you will have to purchase it now if you want the LE. Expect to pay close to full price.

 

get the 5 speed way more fun. Much quicker than the auto, know from experience. The auto i ride with sometimes up to camp hates looking at the back of my manual every time we go riding.

 

Go with the foot shift, much more reliable than a belt.

I purchased a l.e. raptor in 2002 and the dealer told me the same thing. Only one per dealer, very limited and all that. WHAT a bunch of bs that was! you see then all the time. I think its just a publicity stunt and hype to get more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
