Eiger Problems
#1
Wanted to post some information on a few problems I've had with my Eiger during the break-in period. I've mentioned in a previous post that the engine makes a rattling noise at certain RPM'S. It almost sounds like the knocking noise when you're running bad gas. Weekend before last I had it out at the dear lease and the temp light came on. I was driving at very low speeds. I did notice that earlier in the day the fan was kicking on, but it never kicked on when the light was on. I put it on the trailer after the light came on. I had it out this weekend and mostly ran it at high speeds. The light never came on, nor did the fan. I've also noticed that the rear-end makes a rubbing noise. It's sounds like the tire is rubbing, but it's not. It also backfires pretty loud everytime I kill it. I do love this bike, but am somewhat disappointed with the problems I've had. I took it in for the first service yesterday. WOW, what a rip-off. Way more expensive than I expected. Dealership also quoted me $35 to plug a tire that had a thorn in it, I had to pass on that. I'll let you all know what they find. If anyone has had similar problems I'd like to hear from you.

the rumbling noise you heared is normal. every manual suzuki vinson or eiger makes it i dont know what it is but have been told by several dealers that its no problem. During the breakin period a motor always produces alot more heat because of the extra friction in the motor as it nocks off all the high spots. I dont know why the heat light would come on without the fan runing maybe the wires to the fan are lose. Also make sure that the oil cooler stays free of mud and dont hit it with a power washer or it will bend the aluminum and reduce air flow, just use a hose with low presure. The motor is air cooled its going to over heeat if you drive it at very low speeds for very long periods of time or work it for a long period of time. the engine knocking is probly detination try runing 89 or higher gas and it will stop. Its a high performance moter compared to a car and should be using higher octain gas. About the backfireing i dont know what causes it but the eigers i ride with do it sometimes to. 35 bucks for a tire plug? What a rip off, go to an auto parts store and buy a kit and keep it in your storage box, its saved me on the trail a few times. Hope this helped. Over and out.

No problems w/ my eiger auto after 150 miles of spirited trail riding. I changed the oil and cleaned the spark plug, but have yet to have the valves adjusted. Might try to do that myself. About your engine probs, what s4e said, plus make sure your vent hoses are not kinked (one on the gas cap, one under the seat). Remember, you have only 6 months of warranty, so if something doesnt seem right w/ the machine, take it in, duplicate the problem in front of the grease monkey, start and ride a new identical machine to compare sounds, etc. It is a PITA to hassle w/the dealership, but at least in the first 6 months, what might need to be repaired is covered. The squeeky wheel, dude.

Dude chill out, I hear that noise too, (remember the knocking noise on the Toyota pickups, they turned out to be the most reliable vehicles on the road) Break it in and learn to do some maintenance on your own, you will not regret getting a suzuki, they are very dependable. Hang in their, I thought the same thing you did when I got mine, and it just keeps going and going and going, its actually more reliable than my wifes Honda.

Dude, you aint going to have fun if your going to find everything you can wrong with it. Just drive the HELL out of it until there actually is something wrong with it, then your having fun!! I drive mine like im trying to break it but I change the oil regulary, clean/change the air filter, change gear oil, W/D 40 the whole underbody, and she runs just like brand new. Dont baby it then it will break.

First off, I love my Eiger. My X-Mas present last year. I have about 800 miles on it and I didn't have a problem, until now. I was out riding last week and my front end felt wierd. When I got off the quad, I noticed the steering was very loose. The nuts on the tire rod ends had loosened up. Also, when I get into mud and water (deep stuff, between the top of the tires and the fenders), the machine runs like crap (when I hit the throttle, there is a delayed response, slowly builds up and the kicks in, also when I get off the throttle and just coast, it starts to backfire). There is no water in the air box, no water creeping into the muffler. I decided to go through the machine and give it a tune up (2rd one this season). When I took the bowl off the carb., I noticed there were little black plastic flakes in there. I took the gas tank off and cleaned that out, same thing. To solve this, I installed an inline filter. Changed the plug (which seemed fine), changed the oil, changed the diff. fluid, cleaned all the electrical connections, air filter. Took it out for a ride and ran awsome, up until I hit the water and mud again. Any suggestions? I like the machine but people have warned me that with miles (500+) come problems. I hope this is not the case.
