what's a good year for Lt500?
#1
I just called on an Lt500 for $3,800. The guy wasn't clear if it was a '90 or '91. My brother bought an '89 Lt500 and we've had problems keeping cylinder studs in it (I read in dirtwheels that we're not the only '89 with this problem). I know that other years have different problems, so what should I be concerned about on this bike? Thanks for any info you can give me!

Jeff, The best years are 89-90. I own a 89 LT500 and have never had aby problems with cylinder stubs pulling out or have ever heard of 89-90 models having those problems. However the 87 model did have a problem with the studs. Im not sure if the 88 model was corrected but I do know hat the 89-90 models were. When you do find a 500 that you are interestd in ask the owner if he has had the crankbearing bosses resleeved. This is a repair that all years of Quadzilla's need. For more information about crank bearing bosses and other areas of concern go to www.mrdune.com and skroll to the bottom of the page and click on "tech info". Hope it helps!.....Hebert
