Default 500cc Quad?

I am new to ATV's and traded an old snowmobile for an old suzuki Quad.
I am told it is a "QUADZILLA" 500cc.
The serial number is: JSAAM11A9H2100xxx
here is a picture of it:

Can anyone tell me anything about this machine?
I was told it is a Suzuki Quad from the mid-eighties. It is Blue(Seat/Engine) and Yellow trim.
It is dirty and the plastic is cracked a bit but it supposedly runs but I'm not quite sure how to go about checking it over before attempting to start it. I know sleds fairly well but quads I have no clue. Does this thing need a key to be started? I wasnt given one by the guy I traded to. Is it gas/oil premix? There is a radiator on it but how do I fill it?

thanks for any info you guys can lend!

Dylan

Yes, you have a Quadzilla. That is an '87. You do mix gas, at 32:1 or 40:1 whatever you prefer. Make sure there's oil in the tranny, or better yet change it first. The radiator's right under the blue front plastic. If it needs a key, the switch would be right behind the light on the handlebars, otherwise just use the handlebar kill switch as an on-off switch. Those are desirable 4-wheelers.

Wow, what a trade!

For starters, you'll probably need to pull the carb off and clean it up (I'm sure you've done that on a sled before)
if it's stock, it will be a flat slide mikuni... nothing hard at all.
Make sure the rest of the fuel system has been flushed also.
next you'll need to clean and/or replace the air filter element (If its sat for a long time, the foam has probably degenerated)

as suggested, change the gearbox oil, new plug (verify it has spark... )

mix a good quality oil at 32:1 with the highest octane fuel you can find... fire it up..

Welcome to one of the most powerful quads ever built!

Good luck!

Thanks for the help everyone. Now the tough question: I'm 6'6" and around 360lbs. Should I ride this machine?
I'm told that being a large person I would tend to tip this thing over a lot. any advice?

I will take all your input and have the quad professionally gone over and cleaned and tuned.
That being said, if I wanted to get rid of it after that would can I expect to get for such a machine?

-Dylan

P.S. the sled I traded for it was worth ROUND $600.00USD, Did I get a deal or did I get screwed?

I'd say you got a pretty good deal since quadzillas are getting rarer and rarer. You should have any problem riding this thing since you are a bigger guy. If you got the money this thing could become a project!

You've got the biggest, fastest production quad ever built. Good deal is an understatement. Even if you have to rebuild the engine it's still a good deal. Check out the LT forum at macdizzy.com. There is a thread over there called "LT500 motor Rx" that has tons of info about your engine.

Going by the A-arms, you have an 87. Do everything DUNEADICT recommended, and if you want to part it out, I got dibbs on the engine.
