I did a clutch on my 85 200x once. I knew in advance what special tools I needed since my "clymers" manual explained everything. The job was not tough, but I remember wishing I were an octopus a few times.
If you have a good service manual, and some good quality tools I would say hell yes, give it a shot.
with the experiences I have had with the service department of every bike shop in a 70 mile radius, I would say you have nothing to lose. slow turn around times, and **** poor workmanship make me want to fix my own stuff every time
