hey guys.i finally got an 89 lt250r.the only two storke iv every rode was a cr250.other than that ive been on nothing but 4 strokes.i know you have to ride them a lil different.anybody have any riding tips for me?how do i know when the engine is revved out?they seem to always be revved out.also how do i adjust the powervalve for bottom end?thanks

 

well the best overall thing you should know is the pre mix. everyone has there own mixing but 32:1 is a good rule of thumb to use. just keep in mind to treat the bike good and it will treat you the same back. just like anything of course. i dont believe the powervalve can be adjustable but i dont know for sure..

There are only a couple of things to be sure of about a 2-stroke. Especially the LT250r. The one most important thing you have to remember is to have the oil pre-mixed into the gas like ToppNotch said. I have a 86 LT250r and i run 32:1 mix ratio. You should run that or somthing as close. Another think you should know, is, most 2-strokes are a heck of a lot faster than 4-strokes. So i would take it slow for a while to get the fell of it. Most people under estimate the power of the "LT" and the "R" in 250. <u>What do you mean by rewed out?</u>
I don't think you can adjust the power valve for bottom end power. All a power valve does is adjust the amount of gas goes into the carb. I am not even sure a LT250r even has a power valve???? other than that, be careful. Its a whole lot of bike, i know cause i have one.

ok rookies YES they do have a powervalve. no your 86 does not only 87-92 does? if you turn that little dial on the side of your engine to about the half way point it should be fine. as for riding tips on your lt like they say take care of it and shell be good to go. just remember this thing is only 15 years old or so so it might need some tlc from time to time. just ride the thing and enjoy it but respect it or it will suprise you and give you expensive hospital bills. ps always wear a helmet and gear. that way if you dont respect it at least your hospital bills wont be so bad...

Every one seems to have their own opinion on two stroke oil. I have always used Yamalube and had excellent results.

 

I like Klotz syntec blend. The powervalve is on the exhaust port, and by adjusting it it's like adding a pipe for low-end one way, or top-end the other. Doesn't have a thing to do with the carb.

 

Opinions will vary just be sure to use a good quality oil! The 87+ have powervalves.
