Default Chain tension on 1986 LT250R

Firts off, I am new to the forum, great site!

I think of myself as a pretty mechanically inclined person but I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the chain on this thing. I just bought a new chain and sprocket but the chain is too tight. Is there a way to release some tension on it? Thanks in advance -Ryan-

I believe that you would need to loosen those bolts on the top rear of the swingarm and also the two sticking out the back of the swingarm to adjust the chain (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

By the way, where do you measure the chain for the correct amount of slack?

Welcome to the forum!

Loosen the four pinch bolts on the back of the swingarm, the bearing carrier has a hole in it (in between the pairs of pich bolts) so you can stick something (I use an allen wrench) in there to rotate it. Go forward to loosen it and back to tighten so you have about an inch of slack in the middle of the chain.

Thanks Sam and everyone else for replying. Thanks to you I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT!!! Wow I never would have known to turn that. They definately made it tricky to figure out. But now that I know, damn, it's pretty easy. This forum is sweet. I'm sure I will hang around for a while. later -Rappa-
