Default z400 suprised me

yeah, i have been to the bandlands in Indiana, its 700 acres of half sand dunes that are small and trails that are fun. Its a great place to ride, and in back there is a spot to drag, but thats not aloud. I have wanted to go silver lakes very badly, but am worried about the deciable meters and how **** they are. I know i will pass but my buddy with a kfx-700 is questionable with his dual yoshies. Also how big are the dunes there, i have been to Yuma, California at the Glamis dunes and those are about 500ft tall! I live in chicago.

Default z400 suprised me

Of all the Z's i've race'd I've beat everyone of them. Don't get me wrong i've lost to them on multiple runs.. but its usually Because of a bad launch (mess up on my part) By no means do i smoke the Z but every one of the race's I was either even to second or just aliltle far behind. After i hit third though it was nothing but leaving them. Not badly but i was leaving them. i'd say 300-400 foot i was about 6-7 quads ahead of them. Of course the times i've mess'd up i was gaining on them as we finish'd.

I've race'd 4 total.. 2 stock( no offensive but i pretty much smash'd then, but go figure im at a bit of an advantage) and 2 minor mod'd One had a pipe. and the other said he had pipe filter and jets. The most modd'd one beat me 2/5 race's. One of those race's i dump'd the clutch lil too hard on the gas and had to use back brake so he pretty much just cream'd me. Second time I lost from him was from a wheelie coming into second gear. Didnt have to use the brakes but i did have to let off alilttle(fan'd clutch) and he pull'd me from down low. I almost caught up though. Can't win them all. But like many others have said. The raptor has a very mild engine from the factory. I do give you Z's this.. They can handle! I could barely keep up with a few of them in the trails. You are right though, Raptors have a displacement advantage, but that is NOT the only thing thats determines power.

just my 2 cents.

How did yamaha fall short witht he raptor.. It is poorly tuned stock so it is a legal machine.. A z gets eat'n in dragging but if i had the choice for gncc or track id take the z over but dunning dragging wheelieng and everythign that needs real man power id take the raptor... murdr I bet your mad beacuase the best atv manufactures ever are throwing all they got for the atv's and everyone else is slacking still stuck oin the 2 wheel age lol Yes you are correct about the 1st year problems with the raptor about the bad tranny but guess what bud everything fixed and that sohc rappy is roosting dohc Z.. You can't compare 2 machines with such a different displacment. If the z was a 660 the Raptor wouldn't have a chance.

To reply to the quote Amatures talk speed............................................. ...............................................
Some people love drag racing and some people love handling, i am one of those guys who loves to drag. I have a 1991 and 2002 mustang gt. So I love to drag, its in my blood. Handlings fun but feeling of drag racing is something else!!!

I have rode a stock Z and a fully modded Z and there isn't really any difference at all. Maybe just a little more power up top. Thats it. I have seen a stock Z beat a piped raptor. Big deal, I beat them both on my 400EX. Drag racing has alot to do with rider skill more than anything. Z's are nice quads so are Raptors. They are both nicer than my quad. Neither is that impressive stock, the Raptor takes to mods way better than the Z.
