Has anyone tried clipping a few coils off the carb spring???

Since the Eiger is now my wife's ride I no longer tinker with it. Now I do all my tinkering on my Rincon. The spring was the first thing I did to it (rincon) and it was way better than a jet kit.

06 and newer are injected. But the older ones all use the same carb.

Any details about how clipping a carb spring helps the power output of an engine? I'm confused.

The carb slide is not attached to the throttle cable on a CV (constant velocity) carb like on a regular carb. Vacuum in thwe carb pulls the needle out of the jet. Theres a spring that holds the needle down and the vacuum pulls against it. If ya clip the spring (approx 1/3 on a Honda) the needle pulls out of the jet way faster, increasing throttle response!! WOOOHOOO!!!

Theres a cap on top of the carb where the spring is. Remove the 4 screws and pull out the spring. Clip off about 1/3rd. and put back larger part back in. Look at the way the cap is on so you dont cover the vent hole. Do not touch the rubber parts if you dont have to.

When you mash the thumb throttle there is a lag time while the vacuum builds. This eliminates much of that lag.

I might just have to try that. I'm familiar with the spring you're talking about after doing all the jetting stuff. And im sure a new spring is pretty cheap if the Eiger ends up not liking the modded spring.

Prolly take ya 15 minutes. On the Manual machine it'll prolly make a bigger difference than on the auto. You'll think ya added a jet kit. It only affects the first 10 feet of operation, no change on the top end. Yer shifts may be faster too!! (I know it makes a big difference on the 450 Foreman.

Run out and do it now, I'll wait!!
