Snowwolfe, the 12 wide tires will definitely fit especially if they are 26"s. I have 27x12x12 on my KQ and they have plenty of clearance. The 12" in back make the KQ really wide, so if you travel on really tight trails you might have some problems. Otherwise go wide!

Can you post a picture of your quad with the tires? What type are they? On what rims? Would you have any drive line problems changing from the stock 25's to 27's?

Snowwolfe, I've got Mudbugs mounted on type 5 c series. I don't think that there should be any problems turning them the KQ has plenty of power for that. As far as the axles holding up only time will tell, but I haven't heard of many problems with the Vinson so I'm hoping the KQ won't be any different. The bigger tires definitely made the KQ taller. I have over 12" of GC at the lowest point under the front axle. The new tires weigh probably about 6-8 lbs more at each corner. The ride is still great and I even cranked up the shocks because I'm a pretty big guy. The shock preload stiffening also keeps the KQ from squatting so bad on acceleration. I'll try to get some pictures up this weekend.

Are the alunimum wheels stronger and a better choice for utility riders?

rambrewster,

What size 26's did you put on the front and back?

What size rims did you use front and back (width)?

I have a king quad 700 and was considering putting some 26" tires on it, but didn't know if I shoud stick with the stock rims or not. I know that if you change to aftermarket rims, the offset is sometimes different.

One more question, how wide is the bike in the rear (from outside tire-to-tire)? Does is exceed 50"? The stock measurement is 46" at the rear tires. The reason I need to know is I'm buying a trailer, and I want to make sure the bike will fit in with larger tires.

Thanks.

Rambrester,
What size are you running in the front of your KQ?

It will be more like 12-15lbs on each corner. Your stock tires and rims in the rear only weigh 23lbs, your Mudbugs on C-Series weigh about 38lbs

I'm pretty sure they didn't weigh 38 lbs but it is possible. You can definitely notice the extra weight of the new tires, but for six ply tires the mudbugs are some of the lightest. The backs are27x12 and the fronts are 27x10. The Mudbugs don't rub anywhere, even full lock on the front. I almost think you could put 28's on without a lift if you were a lighter person and cranked up the preload on the shocks, but I would check that before you go out and buy. I adjusted the front shocks to the third preload setting and the back shocks to the fouth setting because I'm a pretty big guy, 5'11", 250lbs and I like a pretty firm ride. To my surprise the overall ride didn't suffer much and it seems the harder you hit the big bumps the better the KQ likes it. Overall, for an IRS bike I am very impressed so far. I have yet to get in a big mud hole yet to see how the new tires will do on the KQ. Hoping to get some extended ride time soon though.

I have 27" bugs on my Vinson and the acceleration was significantly effected. I put a Dalton clutch kit in and regained most of this. Unfortunately, overall top end is down about 8 mph, but the lower end gains are superb.

So........I am thinking about a KQ and would probably put these tires on the KQ. How badly was the acceleration hurt by the bigger tires. Do you think you will need a clutch kit. I am hoping you say that the quad is so powerful that it is not a big issue.

I would also be interested in your comparison of the KQ with 27" bugs vs Brute Force with whatever tires.

Thanks!

The 27" Bugs may have hurt the acceleration a little, but not very much. As far as top speed goes I only have about 40 miles on the KQ so far and haven't had it totally wide open yet. I did however get it to 66 mph the other day and still had more throttle available. I'm sure how much the different tires affected the speedometer or how accurate it was in the first place but I know I was going pretty fast because my eyes were watering like crazy so I had to let up. I'm hoping to do some muddin' this week to see just how good the KQ will do. I have heard alot of good things about the Bugs and hope they will do good in some of the deeper holes that are on the trails we ride.
