NERF BARS ? Do I need them?

yes
they will save your butt when your foot slips off the pegs at high speed
its one of the 1st things I buy
I consider it a safety item,,,,,whether its for the MX track or trails
worth every penny you spend on them

That depends on the type of riding you do. Nurf Bar's are mainly for MX type riding.
They play two roles. 1st they provide a 'net' to catch your foot if it slips off the Peg, so that your foot/leg doesn't go under the ATV and under the rear tire, causing injury.
2nd it helps prevent another ATV's tire from getting inbetween your tires, and causing injury, a crash, and/or damage to either ATV.
If you don't do MX, you may not need them. They are especially important if you do any type of jumping because if your foot ever slips off the Peg, i guarentee you'll be glad to have them.
If all you do is trail ride, or ride in a controlled area (Like a yard), and don't do racing, then you probably don't need them.

as far as trails go
they help you round tight trees without getting hooked on the rear tire
when the pegs get wet/muddy on the trails, your feet will tend to slip off

All depends on your riding style, I do these types of racing(mx and xc) and I don't have em.......I like to be able to put down my foot and "backpeddle" if need be.......I do have though some really sharp pegs(ad on's)......they will cut into a tennis shoe or work boot(that is how sharp they are).........
