Default Eiger idle setting

I just picked up my new Eiger and was wondering how long it is taking others to warm up enough to turn of choke. Also I tried setting my idle and do not seem to be able to change it at all.I seem to have to keep the choke half way to keep it running. Do you have to turn the idle screw a whole to get it to change or do I have a problem.I have been playng with the setting screw a lot and I am concerned that I may have messed up the settings. I would appreciate anyones input

I have owned mine since 02 and have three friends who also have them. They all seem to warm up with in 20 to 30 seconds. As for idle adjust it should change at least a little bit as soon as you touch it. If you are having to run it with the choke half on the you got a lean problem. Check the carb boot connection sometimes they get loose. Also if your bike is new take it back and let the dealer fix it free.
If its not and you bought it used then the carb is probably dirty. Clean it out and all the jets. Eigers need a fuel filter installed between the fuel petcock and the carb, you can get one from your local auto parts store just take the fuel line so you can get the right size.

Turn out the fuel/air mixture screw on the bottom of the carb 1.5 to 2 turns.this helps, if you are going to clean out the carb buy a 126 jet($3) and replace the 122 factory jet. Eigers are way to lean from the factory and this will make it run alot better in the cold. I just finished plowing 10 driveways and not a cough out of mine.

Before you rejet remeber that different elevations will affect it, besides if it is new let the warranty do its job.

Default Eiger idle setting

I appreciate all of the replies and the info. I ended up playing with idle setting and found that it needed about 12 complete turns to to right to get it to idle. So obviously way out of adjustment . So I am going to run it at this setting for awhile and see what happens. Thanks again for all who replied Biney

It really shouldn't have been out that much but if it was on the showroom floor or if little kids play on or around it maybe it got messed with.

I had the same experience when it was well below freezing. At first I changed the idel setting, then after it warmed up it was ideling way too fast. I takes a long time to warm up to point where you can take the choke off. People have apparantly changed to a larger idel jet which helps.
I can tell you that once the machine is fully warmed up it runs fine..just like in warmer weather.

12 turns seems like way to many. I have talked to mechanics etc and they all said the same thing, to do what I mentioned earlier in this post. The dealer will adjust the air/fuel screw for free if you complain about it. The jet change is a minor one that lets richens the mix just enough to let it run in the cold and not change warm weather performance. Hey sullivad where you from? I live south of London.
