Dealer told me not to worry about it unless I ride it hard....well I do! How can I tell if it needs to be done? Only have 11 hours so far but shouldn't this be done at the 10 hour dealer checkup?

I have not, but I doubt they will need it for a LONG time. I had a DRZ400 with the same shim over bucket design and in over 2 years of hard riding they were still in spec! On the other had, my old raptor needed adjusted about4 times in 2 years.. but it is a different set up.

RETIC....When I had my Vinson, they adjusted the valves at the 100 mile mark. I just got a King....4 hrs. on it. I would bet that they will at least check the vavles. For what you will pay for I would at least ask them to be checked.

I would say to wait untill aroud three to 5 hundred miles to have them checked...if it sounds like it is running fine, it's about 120 bucks to get them checked on the KQ. That way you know they are good and broke in before you get them checked. It would be a bumber to check them only to find 400 mile slater that they are out of specs.
Once engine is broke in... I doubt they will need much adjustment at all!! for several years!

If it "knocks" real bad when at an idle (say after 100 miles) you sould go get it checked.

The service dept told me that is part of the first checkup. I have not had either one in yet. They said @ 20 hrs bring them in. I have 14 hrs on one and 1 1/2 hrs on the second. It will be interesting to see if they run differently after the adjustments. Have Fun!

RazorKQ, please let us know if you notice any difference after the valve adjustment from the dealership.

Thanks

Keep us updated and I am mad at you for finding an updated red one!!!! Not really but I had to settle for green as I could not find a red one with the updates at the time I bought mine.

if you notice the engine knocking real bad....GET THEM ADJUSTED!!!! I had mine done at the first service and it made quite a difference.
Just my .02 cents.... but do what you want. Ride with your motor knocking or ride a smooth machine. your choice.

Just got back from a ride. Both machines are running what I consider...smooth. Had to pretty much baby the red one because this is only it's 3rd hour of life. The yellow one is nearing it's 20 hrs (I think it is at 18). They are soooooo fun!

I had my valves checked at 120 miles, no adjustment needed. The only thing I noticed was that my wallet was lighter afterwards...lol.

I was with a big group at an atv rally this weekend, one of the guys is an Arctic Cat technician. Someone with a new atv asked him about the 'valve check' and he said they do it all the time, but RARELY adjust them. It's just to cover their butt. If they don't require it, then someone who doesn't know what the engine SHOULD sound like has valves out of adjustment.......it's the manufacturers fault. But, by requiring the check, nobody has an excuse to ruin a motor. His advice to the guy was that as long as it runs fine and sounds fine, it should be okay. He didn't assume any responsibility, just said to use a little common sense.

It might make you feel better to have it checked and then you don't have to worry about it....regardless of how it sounds. You pay for peace of mind....
