Eiger or sp 400
#6
There is a shoot-out of the 400 4x4's in this months ATV Rider. The Eiger was first, Outlander second, Sportsman third, Kodiak 450 fourth and the honda rancher fifth. I haven't ridden any of the other quads but I think they were knit-picking to many issues about the kodiak. One test rider even wrote "Yamaha: It's time to update". What does this guy mean? The kodiak has IRS for this year, it's a totally new machine. Anyway Last month in a different mag the Outlander won and the month before that the Kodiak won and the month before that the Sportsman won.... My point is get out there and test ride these machines for yourself, that is the ONLY way to get a true rundown of what the machine is like.

Sorry it was atv rider, the biggest point to me that they made about the polaris was the weight. They said something along the line that it felt like the same frame, weight wise, but with only 400cc's of motor. They wanted to know where the other half of the motor was. I was also surprised at they way they rated the kodiak. I can tell you that i am very happy with my eiger. It's my second bike now, my son rides it mostly. We've put 1900 trouble-free miles on it. The outlander came in 2nd, but a distant 2nd. The real surprise was the honda. One of the riders said it felt like you were riding a toy, after riding the other quads.

I agree (o5Y response).........ride'em, then decide.
As an Eiger owner (1600 + miles) I enjoy the results of the "shootouts"..........but I think they can lead to buying decisions that, if based solely on these results, are a mistake.
Most of us would like to think that what we ride is the "best out there"........that we obviously made the "correct" choice...........well, if we bought the quad because it "fit" us and our needs, then we probably did.
On the other hand, if we bought one because "everyone.......the mag's and the "experts" on the forum" said it was the best.........well, I hope your butt agrees with everyone elses.......it may not.
Trust your own "expert evaluation".........you pay for it.....you ride it.........maybe it should be right for.......you!
