Default LT230 info needed.

There's an lt230 for sale locally. Year unknown (he guesses late 80's model), it runs "decent" according to the guy. $200 obo. I can't refuse this. Going to go look at it tonight. Anything I should be looking for other than the usual "used-atv-buyer-beware-lookout-for-major-flubups" things. Anyone have the code breakdown of the lt230 VIN? I like to determine the year of the bike. What years were good what were bad?
Thanks.

I have an 87. The only main problem is the chain breaking the side cover. other than that as long as it runs well you should be happy with it. Most people think that a 230 would be slow, but once you get to fourth on the overgrown trails that i ride, thats as fast as you want to go. i have only topped it out going down a long dirt roads and it is still fast enough. I have gotten it stuck though, and its not hard at all to spin the tires. there wasnt any "bad" years. it is most likely an 86 because alot more 86s were made then the 87s and 88s.
"If you still have the VIN sticker on the frame, it should have the model # on it. Here's the decode info:

LT230SF - 85
LT230SG - 86
LT230SH - 87
LT230SJ - 88"-- yagerzzz
