When LT250S is getting hot, problems are coming!
#1
HI to everybody, i am new here and i need some help with my Quadsport LT250S 1990.... When the engine is cold, everything is going fine, it's easy to start the atv and the power is very good. But when the engine is getting hot, i am unable to start it again.... and i am unable to speed it to... each time i press the gas the engine is doing huge noise from the pipe... like big backfire.... And it act like it would stop running....
I have a lot of thing that have been checked out on it: the carby have been cleaned and checked (everything seems to be fine on it). I did put new spark on it to: Same results. I asked a lot of people, but nobody had this problem in the past with an atv.... I am now at the point that i have open the cover for the dynamo.... everything ( from my eyes ) seems to be fine too. Compression is fine too....
I am really sick and tired to put some $$$$$ in it....
Any suggestions would be really appreciate.

well, dont take me the wrong way, but its a 1990! i mean 15 year old quad is prety old, maybe u should look at buying a new quad, sell this one and whoever comes to look at it make sure its cold and start it and let them fall in love with it, then buy a brand new one, thats what i think.
The problem could be.. im stumped

The air filter in good shape and CLEAN? When's the last time it was replaced? Motor ever been opened, tinkered with? Are the carb set screws adjusted correctly? Anything not stock?

The problem is probably your CDI. I've had several quadsport 230's and two of them had bad CDI's and ran exactly like you describe yours, except that mine would randomly run good and bad, not just when it was hot or cold. When it was running bad, the header pipe would get really hot and the exhaust was really loud. It was also hard to start then. Then all of a sudden while riding it, it would "kick in" and start running good again with a lot more power. After tearing into the motor and doing a rebuild (probably unecessary), I finally tried a different CDI and presto! It ran good all the time.

Just detail it and sell it, then finance a new LT250 Ozark for another 15 years. What is it $39 a month? At 15 years old and who knows how many hours its have lived 3 life times of an non-brand. You only have fun while you are alive and in good health, so go out their and finds a new or used new Ozark have fun.
