I actually use both. While a bigger trailer would be ideal, I use the 4x8 trailer I do have and drive the quad onto the trailer and then up the ramps to the truck bed. (my ramps are also a bit short to get into the truckbed by themselves.) I've seen quite a few others do this as well. It aint pretty, but at least I can bring two quads at once! I'll second the making good use of safety straps and having a touch of momentum. Just remember, you don't want to use the cab of your truck to stop with though.
