don't try to hard. when i first put mine on i had the same prob. i went back the next day and sliped it on and turned lightly and it worked, it took maybe 2 min. you really need to get your chain tight, i left maybe half a inch of slack.

I have only rode it up the road a little bit, havent got to climp any hills or go on any slow trails yet,
